Food insecurity in Bristol

Food insecurity exists right on our doorstep. It is the result of structural inequalities that lead to many challenges in people’s lives, from adequate housing and energy poverty to health problems and unemployment. It requires action from local and national government and cannot be addressed in a way that neglects other interconnected issues.

There are many brilliant community food projects delivering vital services to address food insecurity, and responding to the experiences of communities across the city. But for these crucial initiatives, funding and support is often precarious, difficult to access and restrictive.

  • Lush Greens

"[The grant] has helped to further establish our organisation within Bristol’s food justice network, better placing us to continue to expand the work we do tackling food insecurity, poverty, and poor health in the local area."

  • APE project CIC

“The grant has been brilliant and allowed us to maintain our service of free food provision. It has encouraged volunteer participation and has brought more families to the playground.”
